In 1966, The National Sporting Delegation created by General Franco's government in Spain prohibits the country's club sides from signing foreign players. As a propaganda tool, football was ruthlessly exploited by the dictator during his time in office. The ban on foreign players was part of an anti-immigration policy intended to strengthen national identity and patriotism.
