1982 Born in Bari, July 12, the day after Italy won the World Cup. 1999 December: Makes Serie A debut for Bari in 1-0 defeat by Lecce. A week later hits the headlines with a brilliant debut solo goal against Inter Milan. 2001 May: After two full seasons with Bari, in which he scored six goals, moves to AS Roma for a fee of $28.5 million. 2003 June: Is sent off for dissent in Roma's Italian Cup final defeat to AC Milan. November: Despite refusing to play for Italy's Under-21s, he wins his first call-up to Giovanni Trapattoni's national side and scores on his debut in the 3-1 defeat to Poland. 2004 June: Features in all three of Italy's matches at Euro 2004 but his goal in the 2-1 win over Bulgaria is not enough to stop an early elimination for the Azzurri. 2005 October: Cassano and Roma fail to reach an agreement on a new contract. 2006 January: After being linked with Juventus and Inter Milan, Cassano agrees to sign for Real Madrid. Scores within four minutes of his debut as Real Madrid defeats Betis in a Copa Del Rey match. August 12: Said he thinks that Capello will bring out the best of him. "Capello knows me well and he knows what I'm capable of," Cassano told Marca. "I'm certain that he will lead us to great achievements because he is the best". August 27: Antonio Cassano has been recalled by Italy after 15 months out of the squad as the Azzurri prepare for their Euro 2008 qualifiers against Lithuania and France. October 30: Antonio Cassano has been suspended from Real Madrid after an incident following the win at Nastic. Real said in a statement that the 24-year-old Italy international, who did not see any action during the match, was disrespectful to Capello after the game. No more details were given. 2007 August 14: Antonio Cassano is finally set to leave Real Madrid - if only temporarily. Los Merengues agreed to partition the player's wages with Sampdoria, who will receive the Italian striker on loan in exchange for paying a third of his gargantuan salary. 2008 May 20: Was a surprise inclusion in the 24-man draft Italy squad for UEFA EURO 2008 announced by coach Roberto Donadoni. "I'm not taking any chances with Cassano," explained Donadoni. "He is not a youngster any more and knows what it means to be a member of a group. I know perfectly well what he can give in technical terms." May 30: Sampdoria made Antonio Cassano's loan move from Real Madrid CF permanent, signing the Italy forward on a five-year deal.

UEFA Champions League
2005-06 player's profile
Skilful, stylish and comfortable with either foot, Antonio Cassano
is looking to reignite his career following his move to the Santiago
Bernabeu in January 2006.
National team
Described by Giovanni Trapattoni as "the future of Italian
football", the coach first selected Cassano for a friendly
against Poland in November 2003. He scored a superb lob against
Poland and went on to earn a place in the Azzurri's squad for
UEFA EURO 2004, and after coming on against Denmark started
- and scored - against Sweden and Bulgaria. However, as he celebrated
his winner in the latter game he discovered that Sweden's 2-2
draw with Denmark had eliminated Italy. Used sparingly in 2006
FIFA World Cup qualifying.
Club
Cassano was tipped for greatness ever since he made his debut
for AS Bari - the club he joined as an eleven-year-old - in the
derby match against US Lecce and followed it up with a wonder
goal against FC Internazionale Milano, aged 17.
2001: Ended months of speculation
in 2001 when he signed for AS Roma in a 28.5m transfer
from his hometown club - a remarkable fee for a teenager. Fabio
Capello mainly used Cassano as a substitute during the 2001/02
campaign, bringing him off the bench 19 times and starting him
on only three occasions, with five appearances in the UEFA Champions
League. Showed increased maturity in his second season at the
Stadio Olimpico, scoring nine times in 27 games. Missed out on
a first winner's medal, seeing red as Milan defeated Roma in
the Coppa Italia final.
2003: He linked up superbly
with Francesco Totti in 2003/04 as Roma finished runners-up to
Milan, scoring 14 goals in a season in which he missed just one
Serie A game. He scored nine Serie A goals the following campaign
but was unable to prevent Roma from bowing out of the UEFA Champions
League group stage.
2005/06: Made just five league
appearances in the first half of the season and, with his contract
set to expire in the summer, Roma sold him to Real Madrid for
around 5m in January 2006. Scored on his debut against
Real Betis Balompié in the Copa del Rey.
