In 1944, Santiago Bernabeu is unanimously elected President of Real Madrid, a post he would hold until the day he died on June 2, 1978. Under his presidency, the club would enjoy a golden era, unparalleled at Madrid or at any other club. Among the trophies won during his era were six European Cups, and one Intercontinental Cup.
